Through case studies and successful initiatives promoted by institutions and associations, this talk aims to present projects and strategies designed to enhance the short film format, ensuring it can establish itself as an economically sustainable audiovisual product beyond being merely an artistic exercise. We will also analyze support tools and initiatives promoted by various organizations and companies that help circulate short films, ultimately discussing their sustainability within today’s audiovisual ecosystem.

Giovanni Capoccia

Co-Founder, Animaccio, Illustrator, Visual Designer | Italy

Giovanni Capoccia is a designer working in various fields of visual production: graphic design, illustration and concept art. He collaborates with both corporate companies and independent projects. For Lirius Games, a tabletop game company, he oversees the visual and production aspects. He has been a teaching assistant at ISIA Roma Design in the Systemic Design master’s degree program and has held masterclasses and curated multidisciplinary projects at universities in Mali, Georgia, England and Estonia. He is one of the founders of Animaccio, a series of appointments about the animation industry.

Animaccio • Storie di animazione offers a collective space where professionals, students and enthusiasts from the world of animation and VFX can come together and exchange ideas. We explore the creative, technical and production aspects of animation and VFX with contributions from experts, studios and production companies. The programme includes two open calls to give students and professionals the chance to showcase their work to a knowledgeable audience. We aim to create a virtuous community, foster the exchange of ideas and open up a conversation on the aesthetics and ethics of work.

Silvia Carobbio

Co-Artistic Director, Lago Film Fest | Italy

Silvia Carobbio is a film programmer and distributor based in Milan. She studied screenwriting at the Luchino Visconti in Milan and Scuola Holden in Turin. She has worked in the development and production departments for Kino Produzioni and Stefilm International. She was in charge of programming at Cinema Troisi in Rome. She is the editorial coordinator of the documentary streaming platform Zalab View, artistic co-director of Lago Film Fest, and head of the program for Pordenone Docs Fest and U Cinemittu, the smallest cinema in Italy.

Lago Film Fest

Founded in 2005 in the lakeside town of Revine Lago, Lago Film Fest is an independent festival of research cinema. A festival that focuses on the future of cinema through a magnifying glass on short films and that develops through films in competition, thematic focuses, retrospectives, talks and performances, the B.I.D. – Barefoot Industry Days, the days dedicated to the film industry professionals. 9 days of films, of filmmakers of the future and of the present, of artistic contaminations, of meetings and proposals that think of the art of cinema as a constantly evolving territory.

Salvatore Centoducati

Co-Founder, IBRIDO, Director | Italy

In 2013 Salvatore made a short film entitled Premonition that won an award at the International Film Festival Rome. He then graduated in animation at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 2014, with the short film Office Kingdom. The film receives many prizes and is screened in international festivals worldwide. In 2016 he co-founded IBRIDO, then directed the short film Water Hunters, commissioned by the Piedmont Region. In 2018 he published his first Graphic Novel entitled Con i Sassi nel Cuore. As director, is now working on the feature film Dark Horses.

IBRIDO

IBRIDO is an independent award-winning animation studio that has been making 2d, 3d and stop-motion animation since 2016. We are currently producing a children’s TV show called Anselmo Wannabe, bought by RAI and RTP, in co-production with Portugal, and a VR Series, developed through Biennale College called Città Dolente, with Argentina; in 2023 we completed an animated documentary TV special entitled Tufo, which was screened in Annecy. We are now developing the feature film Dark Horses, pitched at Cartoon Movie 2024, and the feature film Riamise, which benefited from CEE workshop.

Elena Ciofalo

Project Manager, Centro Nazionale del Cortometraggio | Italy

Graduated in Communication in 2011 and in Film Studies in 2015, with an Erasmus at the University of Paris VIII in 2013 and European training and exchange experiences from 2014 to 2017, Elena Ciofalo has been working in the cultural sector in Turin and Aosta for 9 years. From 2018 to 2023 she was project manager in the area of Cultural promotion and Audience Development at the Fondazione Polo del ‘900 in Turin; from 2021 to 2023 she worked as a producer with the Turin-based independent production company Cinefonie. She is co-founder, secretary and current project manager of the AIACE VDA association based in Aosta Valley. Since December 2023, she has been working at AIACE Nazionale as project manager and head of strategic planning for the activities of the Italian Short Film Center

Centro Nazionale del Cortometraggio

The Centro Nazionale del Cortometraggio (Italian Short Film Center) was established in 2007 thanks to Gianni Volpi, who was president of Aiace Nazionale (Italian Association of Arthouses) at the time.The idea was to fill a void: to create a point of reference in the world for Italian shorts, by collecting films and promoting them both at home and abroad. Since then, the Short Center has been operating as an agency for the Italian short, to ensure, amongst other things, an annual showcase of domestic productions at the leading event in the sector: the Marché du Film Court at the Festival of Clermont-Ferrand. The Short Center, thus acts as the main interface for numerous foreign players, from festivals to distribution. In 2016, the Center created the Torino Short Film Market – now ShorTO Film Market – one of the main industry events in Italy dedicated to the short film ecosystem.

Federico Fasulo

Artistic Director, Gorilla Distribution, Co-Founder, Eclettica | Italy

Federico Fasulo is a director, screenwriter and producer from Milan. After graduating from the Met FilmSchool in Berlin in 2016, he wrote and directed the short films: Dorsia, Biccheri and Zum See. He is currently artistic director of Gorrilla Distribution and a partner in the production company Eclettica. His interest in art is matched by his interest in philosophy, which he studied at the University of Milan and the University of Oslo and which deeply inspires the projects he works on.

Eclettica + Gorrilla Distribution

Eclettica is an independent audiovisual film and advertising production company, founded in Milan in 2021. In just three years of activity it produced more than fifteen short films and won awards at prestigious national and international festivals. In 2023 it starts Gorrilla Distribution, dedicated to the distribution of Italian and international short films. Its catalog, oriented on narrative genre cinema that does not lose touch with the authorial vision, garnered selections at Venice, Locarno and on the Oscar, BAFTA, EFA and Meliés circuit worldwide.

Alessandra Miletto

Director, Fondazione Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste | Italy

Alessandra Miletto graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Turin with a thesis in Film Studies (History and Criticism), then she attended further Writing and Communication workshops. She has taught and researched Film Education at many schools and institutions, including the Istituto Luce where she studied the propaganda and war films of the fascist era. In 2011 she worked as location and production manager for Fondazione Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste until 2013 when she was appointed Director of the foundation. At the end of her term as Director she became international consultant for the Italian Film Commission Association and consultant for the MIBACT’s project “Italy for Movies” managed by Cinecittà. She also works as programmer and coordinator for Cervino CineMountain Festival and FrontDoc Film Festival. In October 2017 she was appointed Director of Fondazione Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste again. She is a member of the European Film Academy and VicePresident of the Italian Film Commission Association.

Fondazione Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste

The Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste supports the development of the film and audiovisual industry to promote the culture and landscape of the Aosta Valley by providing assistance and support to production companies interested in filming in this extraordinary territory at the foot of Mont Blanc. The Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste offers services and financial support to projects that involve the local industry or promote the region’s image. The Film Fund supports national and international independent production companies working on feature films, short films, TV series, television movies, documentaries, and web series projects, with a particular focus on co-productions with Francophone countries. Additionally, the objectives of the Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste include the promotion and development of the region’s technical and artistic talents.

Andrea Rapallini

Co-Founder, Sentiero Film Factory, Sentiero LAB | Italy

Andrea Rapallini has been working as a freelancer since 2012 on prestigious sets, including Tale of Tales, Disclaimer, and Succession. In 2013, he co-founded Black Oaks Pictures, specializing in the production of short films and documentaries. Since 2019, he has collaborated with Materiali Sonori Cinema, contributing to acclaimed projects featured in numerous international festivals. In 2021, he co-founded Sentiero Film, focusing on organizing festivals and masterclasses.

Sentiero Film Factory

Sentiero Film Factory is an event dedicated to independent cinema that brings together festivals and industry, creating concrete opportunities for emerging filmmakers. Through screenings, masterclasses, professional meetings, and pitching sessions, it fosters dialogue between writers, producers, and distributors.

Sentiero LAB

Sentiero LAB offers training programs through dedicated workshops. Its mission is to enhance new talents and innovative projects, providing a space for growth and engagement with the audiovisual market.

Giada Mazzoleni

Founder, Red Sled Films | Italia

Produttrice Berlinale Talents 2025, alumna di Biennale Cinema College e dell’European Genre Forum, con crediti in festival di categoria A e B e una forte esperienza nella produzione a basso e medio budget. Attiva nel settore creativo dal 2011, dopo aver collaborato con le principali case di produzione cinematografiche e pubblicitarie italiane, Giada ha fondato nel 2018 in UK la Paguro Film, una società indipendente con l’obiettivo di sviluppare progetti di autori emergenti particolarmente concentrati sul genere per il mercato cinematografico e del documentario odierno. Ha vinto il Nastro d’Argento nel 2019 ed è stata selezionata nella sezione documentari a Venezia con i film Fulci For Fake nel 2019 e Dario Argento Panico nel 2023, con protagonisti Guillermo Del Toro, Gaspar Noé e Nicolas Winding Refn. Ultime produzioni: Be of a Good Behaviour nel 2024 al Works-in-Progress showcase del London Film Festival. Nel 2024 è una delle fondatrici di Red Sled Films in Valle d’Aosta.

Red Sled Films

Fondata all’inizio del 2024 da un gruppo di professionisti principalmente residenti in Valle d’Aosta con lo scopo di portare più cinema nella regione e nel frattempo esportare le professionalità e i talenti locali. In 12 mesi Red Sled Film ha già curato la produzione esecutiva di un cortometraggio, due documentari, un teaser ed è pronta a uscire con la sua prima produzione originale. Una serie di altri progetti sono al momento in fase di sviluppo.
