Marotta&Calfiero

Maggie Borrelli

A group of Neapolitan kids opens a bookstore in Scampia at the height of a Camorra feud. Kids who become “book dealers.” Where drugs were once sold, books are now passed hand to hand. This is the story of Marotta & Cafiero Editori, of the Scugnizzeria, and of a proudly Southern publishing house rooted in Scampia, capable of publishing authors such as Stephen King and Daniel Pennac. No one believed in it. But they didn’t leave. They imagined a book in every home in Scampia, stayed, and built a project that would go on to be featured in The Guardian. A completely different story — told by Maggie Borrelli.
